What is Slow Food—San Luis Obispo?

SLO Slow Food San Luis Obispo is the local Convivium (chapter) of the Slow Food Movement,   Slow Food is a worldwide non-profit, eco-gastronomic organization  of more than 80,000 people that supports  a biodiverse, sustainable food supply, local producers, heritage foodways, and a rediscovery of the pleasures of the table.  Carlo Petrini Founded Slow Food in 1986 in response to the opening of a McDonald’s in Rome’s historic Piazza di Spagna (Spanish Steps).  Since then Slow Food has grown into an international movement with more than 80,000 members in 100 countries.

We believe that eating is an agricultural act in that each of us had a choice to maintain good, clean and responsible food supply channels through our personal decisions to buy local, seasonal and respobsibly produced ingredients, and by sharing the results with others.

The world has become fast paced where individuality is diminished. As a result, the choices available to each of us in every facet of our lives are being reduced to accommodate the speed in which the world is moving.  Slow Food strives to respect the human need to enjoy our lives by slowing down and rehumanizing ourselves, starting with the most pleasurable aspects of life; eating and interacting with our fellow human companions.
